I’ve been posting updates of what I’ve been reading, listening to and watching on my Facebook page for a while now. I thought I would take the opportunity to post a few more in-depth posts here at arranarctic.com on what’s entertaining me in between my own artistic endeavours.
In the first of this new stream of posts, I wanted to talk about ‘The Stornoway Way‘ by Kevin MacNeil.
‘The Stornoway Way’ often scathing story of sometime artist/musician, full time alchoholic R. Stornoway and his life on the Scottish isle of Lewis.
I came across the novel randomly while perusing the shelves of a charity bookshop. It’s the best £2.49 I’ve spent in a long time as I cannot stress how much I have enjoyed this book. It’s been a long time since a book has made me laugh out loud, something this book made me do repeatedly:
“I often wonder if those stories are true about some alkies being able to live for so long because their insides are so pickled they self-preserve”
‘Stornoway…’ is often delightfully dark, written in beautiful prose and the final, achingly painful but poignant chapter will stay in your mind for a long time after reading.

The book has an interesting title. It would be a delight to read it. The good thing though is that it is available on Amazon and the price is not that bad either. The author did a great thing by publishing an e-book version of the ‘Stornoway Way’. At least readers can get the book more conveniently.
Hi Soraya
Normally I wouldn’t post comments which are clearly intended to boost links to another website (Stornoway hotels in your case!). However, since the product you’re pushing actually has some relevance to what my blog post is about, and also the fact you went to the trouble of checking and mentioning ‘The Stornoway Way’ is available in eBook form from Amazon… Congratulations! You’re the first spammer I’ve ever approved a comment from!
Cheers
Arran
